Abraham Lincoln (Blog #13)

President Abraham Lincoln's statue looks out over the National Mall from the inside of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.

(CNN) -- In one week, our nation will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. President Abraham Lincoln spoke for only two minutes. He started off by reminding his audience that it had been only 87 years since the country's founding, and then went on to embolden the Union cause with some of the most stirring words ever spoken.

  1. 1.) This article is about Gettysburg address and it talked about when Lincoln gave his speech on the battle field in Pennsylvania.
2.)The article is very good it gives a lot of information about this time in history.
3.)My favorite speech of Lincoln's is his "Four score and seven years ago" speech. I like this speech a lot because it talks about when this nation was born, it was meant to be a free country and everyone is equal, yet we had a civil war about people not being equal. When people were better than other people. It talked about people who loved Lincoln so much they were on his side fighting for other people's freedom.

I believe the article makes needed connections between past and present. I agree with the author of the article that people should read aloud and learn about the Gettysburg Address.

The first phrase of the Gettysburg Address, "Four score and seven years ago," is my favorite, due to its memorability.

  5. The article is about the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. It also states how it has influenced teens and adults to learn and read and speak the Gettysburg Address to others.

I agree with what the author says about the address. I believe that he gives some good facts about the address and explains how Abraham Lincoln felt.

My favorite quote of Abraham Lincoln is "The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time". This quote means that our future comes day by day, it doesn't come by years. You want to plan your day one day at a time. Never look into the future. What ever comes in that day is what was meant for you.

2.) Lincoln spoke out his speech on the battlefield in Pennsylvania and the words were important.
3.) My favorite speech is "Now that we are engaged to the Civil War." It means that is testing in the nations. Any nation is conceived or dedicated that we are met on a good battlefield during a war. It's the final resting place for soldiers that gave their lives on the nation might live on. And it is a fitting or proper that they should do it for the government.

I agree with this article, its important for people to know and its important to read out loud as well.

"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
Abraham Lincoln To me it means that you have to live life to the fullest and make everyday count. Which is something I struggle with.

  11. The article is about the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address and it tells how it relates it to the state of the union. My favorite quote by Abraham is "Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing" because it's a good metaphor and it's very true.

    3) I think Abraham Lincoln was an awesome president because of the adversities he faced and what he accomplished. "Good things come to those who wait, but only things are left by those who hustle" that means don't sit and wait for things to happen, make them happen.
